Gears was my reason to buy the 360. I always wanted one before they even shipped, but I was too busy with school. I was going to buy a 360 one day and came across the upcoming exclusive-Gears of War. Exactly! But like the article hinted at, I think a lot of that goes towards marketing and probably for those that build their own engines. I seriously haven't seen anything costing that much on the Wii as far as actual game design. The only thing I see is Conduit, off the top of my head, and that one falls under-a company building their own tech...
They've consolidated it with Submission and called it Capture the Leader. In other words, its still there, although I prefered Submission because the Meatflags were hilarious!
FYI, in the Beast Mode, you can play as the Berzerker.
If gameplay isn't there, then I say stop all production NOW, unless you're going to make a point & click adventure.

Just face it folks, Gears has laid down its ground work. If anything is a system seller, its Gears, so only the haters are concerned about Gears not competing with the "heavy hitters" and their delusion is amusing. No matter what game has came out, Gears has always did its numbers. Just look at it, there's nothing out there like it.
